How To Read Your Water Bill
Your monthly water and sewer bill contains some valuable information. Do you know what all the information means? One of the most important items on the bill is the water/sewer usage, located in the middle left of the bill. This is the amount of water that flows through your water meter and is measured in hundred cubic feet (CCF). One CCF (100 cubic feet) is equivalent to 748 gallons of water. The read dates (date on which the meter was read) are located directly above the usage amounts on the bill, and are also an important factor when analyzing the bill. The read dates reflect the number of days in the billing period. All meters are read to the nearest whole number. The calculation of the water portion of the bill is dependent upon the size of the water meter and the amount of water that flows through the meter, measured in hundred cubic feet (CCF). Most residential meters are 5/8”. Click here for current water rates. Here’s an example of how to calculate a bill based on a monthly water usage of 25 CCF, with a 5/8” meter :
A sample bill with its breakdown can be seen by viewing and/or printing our Branches Summer 1999 publication.
