FYI

Erie County 2008 licenses are available December 1, 2007. Licenses must be purchased by January 31, 2008.

STATE LAW REQUIRES THAT ALL DOGS MUST BE LICENSED BY THE TIME THEY BECOME THREE MONTHS OF AGE.

All unlicensed dogs can be seized and impounded as allowed under the law. Offenders can be fined up to $100 plus court costs.

There is a $18 penalty for late purchases in addition to the standard $18 per license and an $90 penalty for a late kennel license in addition to the standard $90 fee. State law also requires that the license must be displayed on the dog. Dog owners should keep in mind that a current dog license displayed on your dog is the best form of identification. If the tag is lost a duplicate can be made for $1.00 at the Dog Pound.

Donations are being accepted for the Erie County Dog Pound new building fund. All contributions to the Erie County Dog Pound help accomplish its mission of:

  • Building a new facility

  • Operating a progressive animal shelter

  • Educating the public on animal welfare and laws
