Excavation Permit
Any excavation within county right-of-way
cannot take place unless an excavation permit has been
granted by the Engineer's Office, as authorized by the Ohio
Rev. Code sections 5547.03 and 5547.04.
For excavation within township road
right-of-way, please contact the respective
township. For excavations within state or U.S.
route right-of-way, contact the
Ohio Department of Transportation.

How To Obtain An
Excavation
Permit:
In Person: Highway Permits can be applied for in person at the
Erie County Engineer's Office located at 2700 Columbus Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio.
Download: Excavation Permits can be applied for by
printing and completing the
Excavation Permit Form and mailing or delivering
the Form to the
Erie County Engineer's Office located at 2700 Columbus Avenue in Sandusky, Ohio.
Unfortunately, electronic submissions are not accepted.
All permits must be submitted to the Engineers Office with
an original signature.
