Technical Assistance
The Erie Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) serves as a
community contact and delivery system for federal and state cost-share
programs. SWCDs throughout the state provide assistance to urban and
agricultural land users. Erie SWCD works with landowners through a
voluntary cooperative agreement. Services include survey and design of
grassed waterways, erosion control structures, surface and subsurface
drainage, farm ponds, windbreaks and livestock waste management
facilities. The District is governed by a board of five locally elected
landowners, who are familiar with the county’s resource needs allowing
the delivery of a tailor-made conservation program.
The USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) assists the
District in technical matters. Plans and designs prepared by District
employees conform to the standards and specifications of USDA NRCS.
Through this partnership and the partnership with Ohio Department of
Natural Resource, Division of Soil and Water Conservation, the District
is able to readily provide assistance to local landowners in their
resource needs.
