Magistrate Mary M. Bower

 

Personal Background:

 

Mary M. Bower is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan who has resided in the community since 1987. Mary was appointed Magistrate February 12, 2001.

Mary is a graduate of Albion College, Albion, Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and management. She earned her Juris Doctorate at the University of Toledo College of Law in 1985. 

 

Professional Background:

 

Mary was employed at the Erie County Legal Aid and Defender’s Association from January 1987 through February 2001. During her tenure, the majority of her practice was in Family Court. Mary represented individuals in divorce and child custody matters, paternity matters, juvenile delinquency and unruly matters, abuse, neglect and dependency matters and child support matters prior to becoming a Magistrate. She represented both juveniles and adults during her career. 

During her career, Mary has been very active in the legal community. She has served on the Ohio Courts Futures Commission, the Ohio State Bar Association Council of Delegates, the Erie County Bar Association Family Court Committee and the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Erie and Ottawa Counties. 

Mary is currently a member of the Erie County Bar Association and the Ohio Association of Magistrates. Mary is also a member of the Supreme Court of Ohio Domestic Violence Advisory Committee.
