Northern Ohio’s growing season is extended because of the Lake Effect.  In other words in the fall when the temperatures drop inland, the air is warmer along the shores of Lake Erie because the lake has retained the warmth of the summer heat.

It is because of this Lake Effect and Erie County’s rich soil that farmers (and backyard growers, too) reap bountiful crops such as grapes, peaches, apples, strawberries, sweet corn, tomatoes and soybeans.
