Juvenile Justice: An Overview    The Juvenile Court Advocate provides comprehensive services to those victimized by juvenile offenders, in Erie County.   Clearly, youth violence is the greatest single crime problem that this nation faces. I have asked the United States Attorneys, the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, and our office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to do everything possible to address the issues of youth violence. Stevens Jr.   The Erie County Prosecutors Office and the Juvenile Court Advocate provide any or all of the following to victims and/or their families: notification regarding court hearings, information and explanations regarding various court hearings and court procedures, acts as liaison between victim and prosecutor. Makes mental health/substance abuse counseling referrals, assistance with medical providers, assistance with employers, referrals to educational programs. Victims are contacted shortly after the filing of the criminal complaint and the Advocate provides them assistance through the court process. Assistance is available to victims regarding post-conviction issues: such as the youth's release from the Ohio Department of Youth Services, probation violations or unwanted contact by the inmate/probationer. Juvenile justice is criminal law applicable to persons not old enough to be held responsible for criminal acts, usually, under the age of 18. The goal of the juvenile justice system is rehabilitation.
